Why We Built PayAgent When Dozens of Crypto Payment Tools Exist
by LCX Team · February 24, 2026
Compare PayAgent with BitPay, Coinbase x402, Stripe, and Skyfire. Non-custodial, flat LCX fees, AI agent support, & payment links in 1 minute
The crypto payment space is crowded. Dozens of tools claim to make it easy to accept crypto. Separately, a new wave of AI agent payment solutions is emerging from Coinbase, Stripe, and startups like Skyfire.
We built PayAgent because none of them solved both problems. None of them made it simple for a human to create a payment link AND for an AI agent to pay it autonomously. None of them offered flat fees, non-custodial settlement, and token rewards in a single product.
Here is how PayAgent compares.
PayAgent vs CoinPayments, BitPay, NOWPayments, and Coinbase Commerce
The established crypto payment gateways were built for merchant e-commerce. They require onboarding, KYC, integration work, and they charge percentage-based fees. PayAgent was built for individuals, freelancers, agents, and anyone who wants to get paid in crypto with zero friction.
| Feature | PayAgent | CoinPayments | BitPay | NOWPayments | Coinbase Commerce |
| Fee Model | 2 LCX flat | 0.5-1% | 1% | 0.5-1% | 1% |

| Creator Rewards | 1-2 LCX per link | None | None | None | None |
| AI Agent Support | Yes (API) | No | No | No | No |

CoinPayments: Custodial, Percentage Fees, No Agent Support
CoinPayments is one of the oldest crypto payment gateways, supporting 2,300+ cryptocurrencies. It charges 0.5% on BTC/ETH transactions and 1% on tokens and stablecoins. It is fully custodial, meaning the platform holds your funds until you withdraw. KYC is required for full functionality. It was built for e-commerce merchants with shopping cart plugins for WooCommerce, Shopify, and Magento.
PayAgent is different in every dimension. Non-custodial: funds go directly to your wallet. No signup or KYC to create links. Flat fees instead of percentages. Creator rewards that do not exist anywhere in the CoinPayments model. And AI agent support, which CoinPayments does not offer at all.
BitPay: 1% Fee, US-Focused, Bank Settlement Only
BitPay is the most established name in crypto payments, founded in 2011. It charges 1% per transaction and settles in USD to bank accounts. It is custodial, US-focused, and requires merchant onboarding with KYC. BitPay is designed for large retailers accepting Bitcoin and a handful of other assets.
PayAgent serves a fundamentally different user. No merchant account needed. No bank integration. No fiat settlement required. Just connect a wallet and create a link. PayAgent is global by default and crypto-native by design.
NOWPayments: Closest in Philosophy, Still Requires Accounts
NOWPayments supports 300+ coins with 0.5-1% fees and offers a non-custodial option. It is the closest competitor in philosophy but still requires account creation, API key setup, and integration work. It has no creator reward mechanism and no AI agent support.
PayAgent is simpler. No account needed. Connect wallet, create link, share, get paid. The reward model and agent-first architecture set PayAgent apart.
PayAgent vs Coinbase x402, Stripe Agent Toolkit, and Skyfire
A new category of payment infrastructure is emerging specifically for AI agents. The major players are Coinbase with x402, Stripe with its Agent Toolkit and Agentic Commerce Suite, and Skyfire with its dedicated agent payment network. Here is how PayAgent compares.
| Type | Product (live) | Protocol (open) | SDK (developer) | Payment network |
| Fee Model | 2-4 LCX flat | Free tier + $0.001/tx | Stripe standard fees | 2-3% per tx |
| Custody | Non-custodial | Facilitator-based | Stripe holds funds | Custodial wallets |
| Human Support | Yes, equal | Developer only | Via Stripe dashboard | No |
| Crypto-Native | Yes | Yes (Base/EVM) | No (fiat rails) | Yes (USDC) |
| Creator Rewards | Yes (LCX) | No | No | No |
| Setup Time | Under 1 minute | Hours (dev work) | Hours (dev work) | 15+ minutes |
| No-Code Usage | Yes | No | No | Limited |
Coinbase x402: Powerful Protocol, But Not a Product
x402 is an open payment protocol launched by Coinbase in May 2025 that embeds payments into HTTP using the 402 status code. It has processed over 100 million payments and recently released V2 with wallet-based identity and multi-chain support. Cloudflare co-founded the x402 Foundation. The ecosystem includes NEAR AI, Chainlink, and others.
x402 is impressive infrastructure. But it is a protocol, not a product. To use x402, you need developer resources to implement facilitators, handle payment flows, and build user interfaces. There is no “connect wallet and create a link” experience. x402 is plumbing. PayAgent is the faucet.
x402 also does not reward payment creators. There is no token incentive model. And while x402 supports both humans and machines in theory, the practical UX is entirely developer-oriented. PayAgent serves both audiences with the same simple interface.
Stripe Agentic Commerce: Fiat Rails, Not Crypto-Native
Stripe launched the Agent Toolkit in late 2024 and the Agentic Commerce Suite in December 2025. The toolkit is an SDK that lets AI agents interact with Stripe APIs via function calling. The commerce suite lets businesses sell through AI agents with product catalogs, checkout flows, and Shared Payment Tokens.
Stripe is the dominant force in online payments. But its AI agent tools operate on traditional fiat rails. Credit cards, bank transfers, ACH. Not crypto-native. The Agent Toolkit requires Python or TypeScript proficiency and Stripe API expertise. The Commerce Suite is designed for large merchants with existing Stripe integrations.
PayAgent is crypto-native, non-custodial, and requires zero technical integration for basic use. Stripe is building tools for the existing commerce stack to become AI-ready. PayAgent is building native AI-agent payment infrastructure from scratch.
Skyfire: Agent-Only, Custodial, 2-3% Fees
Skyfire is a dedicated payment network for AI agents, founded by former Ripple executives. It raised $9.5M from Coinbase Ventures and a16z CSX. Skyfire provides custodial wallets for agents, identity verification via KYA (Know Your Agent), and spending controls. It charges 2-3% per transaction.
Skyfire is focused exclusively on AI agents. Humans are not first-class users. The custodial model means businesses deposit funds into Skyfire-managed wallets. The 2-3% fee is significantly higher than PayAgent. And there are no creator rewards.
PayAgent takes a different approach: humans and agents are equal participants on the same rails. Non-custodial. Flat fees. Rewards for creators. No walled garden.
Nine Features No Other Crypto Payment Tool Combines
No other solution combines all of these properties:
✓ Non-custodial: you control your funds at all times
✓ No signup: connect wallet and go
✓ Flat fees: 2 LCX Standard, 4 LCX Pro. No percentages
✓ Creator rewards: earn LCX on every paid link
✓ Dual audience: humans and AI agents on the same rails
✓ Auto-swap: payments never fail, even without LCX
✓ Under one minute: from zero to first payment link
✓ No technical integration required for basic use
✓ Crypto-native: built on Ethereum, expanding to L2s
CoinPayments, BitPay, and NOWPayments are merchants tools from the previous era. Stripe is retrofitting fiat infrastructure for AI. Coinbase x402 is a protocol that requires developer resources. Skyfire is a custodial network with higher fees.
PayAgent is the simplest path from zero to paid, for humans and AI agents alike.
The Simplest Crypto Payment Tool for Humans and AI Agents
The crypto payments space needed simplification, not more complexity. The AI agent payments space needed a product, not just protocols and SDKs.
PayAgent delivers both. Live today at payagent.co.
