What is Pendle Finance?
Pendle Finance is a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that enables the trading of interest rate derivatives by isolating yield from yield-generating assets. It offers a novel on-chain solution similar to traditional finance instruments like zero-coupon bonds. This allows liquidity providers and yield farmers to manage risk, speculate on future returns, and refine their investment strategies more effectively.
How Pendle Works
Pendle utilizes a Standardized Yield token system to separate ownership of the asset and its future yield. This process creates two tokens: the Principal Token, representing the underlying asset, and the Yield Token, representing the future yield.
Pendle also features a unique Automated Market Maker (AMM) that adjusts for time-decay. Since Yield Tokens’ value changes over time, this AMM design helps mitigate potential losses from asset mispricing.
What is the Role of the PENDLE Token?
PENDLE is the native token within the Pendle Finance ecosystem, with two key roles: governance and incentives. Liquidity providers on the platform earn PENDLE tokens and a share of trading fees. Additionally, PENDLE can be staked to obtain vote-escrowed PENDLE (vePENDLE), allowing holders to participate in governance decisions and boost their rewards.
