A Club With Very Few Members: Why Coinbase Supporting the LCX Upgrade Actually Matters

by LCX Team · July 28, 2026

Some milestones in crypto arrive with fireworks. Others slip in quietly, buried in a routine notice about sends and receives being temporarily disabled for a few days. This is one of the quiet ones. But it’s worth paying attention to.

On July 27, 2026, Coinbase began the upgrade of $LCX to LCX Token 2.0 on its platform. Between July 27 and 29, every LCX balance held on Coinbase is converted automatically to the new token at a 1:1 ratio. No forms to fill out, no wallet gymnastics, no fees. Sends and receives of LCX are temporarily disabled during this window, exactly as Coinbase outlined in its official announcement: https://x.com/CoinbaseMarkets/status/2069447521169027359 , and normal operations resume once the conversion is complete.

That, on its own, is a convenience. But what makes this genuinely notable isn’t the mechanics of the swap, it’s the company LCX now keeps.

One word of caution: there is nothing to claim and nothing to sign. Neither LCX nor Coinbase will ever contact you by direct message about this upgrade. If someone does, it is a scam.

A Very Short List

Coinbase doesn’t run token migrations for just anyone. Projects rebrand and relaunch their tokens constantly in this industry, it’s practically routine. But Coinbase actively supporting that upgrade, with a fully automated 1:1 conversion for its users, is a different and far rarer thing.

Coinbase itself draws that line clearly. When the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance merged FET, AGIX and OCEAN in 2024, Coinbase stated it would not execute the migration on behalf of users; holders had to move their tokens to self-custody and handle the swap themselves. Gala’s V2 transition in 2023 did not get that support either. The list of projects that do receive the fully automatic treatment is very short.

There was Polygon, whose MATIC token upgraded to POL as part of its broader shift toward an interconnected network of chains. Coinbase completed that migration in October 2025, giving the ecosystem ample time to adjust.

Then there was Maker, one of the most established names in decentralized finance, rebranding to Sky and converting MKR to SKY at a rate of 1 MKR to 23,520 SKY. Coinbase carried out that migration in January 2026, the same pattern now being applied to LCX.

And now, LCX joins that list.

Different projects, different paths to an upgrade, and one exchange willing to take on the operational work of moving real users balances over safely each time. We are proud of the company $LCX keeps on that list.

The Part That’s Easy to Miss

It would be easy to read a headline like “Coinbase supports LCX migration” and move on without a second thought. Migrations happen. Balances update. Nothing to see here.

But it’s worth sitting with it a little longer. Coinbase isn’t obligated to run a migration for every project that rebrands, and it doesn’t. We won’t speak for Coinbase, its support decisions are its own to make. What we can speak to is our side of it: a clean new contract, thorough documentation, and careful coordination between our team and theirs so the conversion runs safely for every single holder. Support at this level is prepared, not requested.

And this didn’t come out of nowhere. $LCX has been listed on Coinbase since 2021, one of the very few exchange tokens ever to trade on the platform, through every market cycle since. This week’s upgrade continues a relationship that is now in its fifth year, however quietly it arrived.

Conclusion

The upgrade itself is bigger than one exchange. LCX Token 2.0 moves $LCX to a new smart contract built for what we are building next: fee utility on LCX Exchange, the native gas token of Liberty Chain, our own Layer 2, the DeFi products taking shape on top of it, and the tokenization of real-world assets. LCX Exchange completed the upgrade first, Kraken followed with a fully automatic migration of its own, and Coinbase, the largest crypto exchange in the United States, now completes the picture.

And for our readers in the United States, today carries a second piece of news. The LCX Exchange USA waitlist is now open: https://lcx.com/us/en

Token upgrades are routine. A leading exchange carrying one out automatically for its users is not. That is the real story of this quiet three-day window.
